Mental Health and Pastoral Support

Wrenn has a clear policy in place to address mental health concerns effectively.

This includes protocols for identifying and responding to students in crisis, guidelines for supporting students with diagnosed mental health conditions, and strategies for promoting mental well-being throughout the school environment.

1. School Counselling Services:

– Trained school counsellors can offer individual and group counselling sessions to students who may be experiencing mental health challenges.

– They provide a safe and confidential space for students to discuss their concerns, emotions, and difficulties.

– School counsellors can also help students develop coping strategies, problem-solving skills, and resilience.

2. Mental Health Awareness Programs:

– Wrenn can organise mental health awareness programs that aim to educate students about various mental health issues, reduce stigma, and promote mental well-being – this is covered in PSHE.

– These programs can include workshops, assemblies, and events conducted by mental health professionals or organisations.

3. Peer Support Programs:

– Peer support programs involve training selected sixth form students to provide support to their peers who may be experiencing mental health challenges.

– These students can provide a listening ear, provide empathy, and connect their peers with appropriate adults within the school when necessary.

4. In school Therapy Pathway and links with External Services:

At Wrenn, we have extensive support on offer to students that will cater at any level of need from emerging mental health to access to CAHMS for more complex issues.

– Wrenn has extensive partnerships with external mental health services such as local Mental Health Support Team (NHS), CAHMS, Service 6, Family Support Link, Frank Bruno Foundation, Seeds of Change and Action for Children, to name a few.

– These partnerships can provide students with access to professional mental health support, including therapy sessions, assessments, and referrals if needed.

6. Mental Health Policies and Procedures:

– Wrenn has a clear policy in place to address mental health concerns effectively.

– This includes protocols for identifying and responding to students in crisis, guidelines for supporting students with diagnosed mental health conditions, and strategies for promoting mental well-being throughout the school environment.

7. Training for Staff:

– Wrenn provides training and professional development opportunities for school staff on mental health awareness. We have a designated Senior Mental Health Lead in school that oversees mental health provision.

– This training helps staff members to create a supportive and inclusive whole school environment.

8. Supportive School Environment:

At Wrenn we provide a supportive school environment which involves the promotion of positive relationships so that we foster a sense of belonging.

This can be evidenced in our ‘Be Kind@Wrenn’ initiative where students are explicitly taught and encouraged to develop and maintain healthy and kind relationships with their peers. We have ‘Be Kind@Wrenn’ ambassadors who are invested in ensuring this programme is successful.

We have a extensive extra-curricular programme of clubs where students are encouraged to attend to widen their social groups and have fun with their friends.
