How to revise

Proper organisation and planning can make a substantial difference in achieving academic success.

Organising revision is essential to ensure that students make the most of their study time and retain information effectively. We encourage our Year 11 students to create a revision schedule that allows for a balanced approach, covering all subjects and topics over an appropriate timeframe. By allocating specific time slots for each subject, they can maintain focus and avoid cramming, which can lead to stress and reduced retention.

Furthermore, we emphasise the importance of creating a productive study environment. Encouraging students to find a quiet, well-lit space free from distractions helps foster concentration and enhances learning. Providing them with resources such as revision guides, past papers, and online platforms equips them with the necessary tools to review and practice effectively.

In addition to a structured schedule and conducive environment, it is crucial for Year 11 students to employ active revision techniques. Encouraging them to engage in active learning methods, such as summarising information, creating flashcards, and teaching concepts to others, helps reinforce understanding and retention. Encouraging regular self-assessment through quizzes and practice questions enables students to identify areas of weakness and target their revision effectively. Regular quizzing is the most effective form of revision – students spending time trying to retrieve the information they know is the best way in ensuring key information is retained.

Collaboration and support also play a vital role in effective revision. We encourage our Year 11 students to form study groups and engage in peer discussions, as this can facilitate learning, reinforce knowledge, and boost motivation. Teachers are readily available to provide guidance, clarify doubts, and offer additional resources to aid in their revision journey.

At our school, we understand that revision can be a challenging and sometimes overwhelming process. We encourage our students to incorporate breaks, exercise, and relaxation techniques into their revision schedule. Taking care of their physical and mental well-being is crucial to maintaining focus, reducing anxiety, and maximising productivity.

By emphasising the importance of organisation, active revision techniques, and well-being, we empower our Year 11 students to approach their studies with confidence and purpose. Through guidance, resources, and a supportive environment, we aim to provide them with the tools they need to excel academically and achieve their goals.

We have provided all of year 11 with the 6-evidence based revision technique bookmarks. Please visit the website to learn more about how to revise.
