Opportunities
A student’s education at Wrenn is not just about what happens in the classroom. We provide experiences and opportunities that supports and encourages our pupils to grow into well rounded young adults.
Extra-curricular
Full details for our extra-curriclar can be found here.
Outdoor Adventure program
Outdoor learning experiences are remembered for a lifetime. Integrating learning and outdoor opportunities, whether through play in the immediate grounds or adventures further afield, provides relevance and depth to the taught curriculum in ways that are difficult to achieve indoors.
Learning outside in new environments can be enjoyable, creative, challenging and exhilarating; this helps young people learn by experience and grow as confident and responsible citizens who value and appreciate the spectacular landscapes, natural heritage and culture of Wrenn and wider world. Music Lessons
The school offers subsidised peripatetic service that provides one-to-one tuition in a range of musical instruments. These lessons usually take place during school time, and further information can be obtained from the music department.
Cost
Wherever possible we aim to provide extra-curricular activities free of charge. Any charge that is made usually relates to the costs of administering the activity, or to contribute to transport costs. If this is the case parents will be informed.
Trips and Vists
Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of trips and visits throughout their time at the academy. We always balance the type and duration of visits alongside the cost implications for parents, as well as minimising any curriculum time lost.
In year 7 through our Modern Foreign Languages faculty we offer an annual visit to either Normandy in France or Barcelona in Spain. Both visits take students out of their comfort zone, encouraging them to use a different language in everyday situations.
In year 7 we also take students to Bushcraft, where they learn how to cook, camp outdoors and take part in many outdoor activities. A definite highlight of the year!
Other trips and visits differ from year to year, but are closely linked to themes being studied within the curriculum. A selection of trips throughout the school is shown below:
- Art and Design – Tate Britain, London
- Business Studies – Jaguar Land Rover, Coventry
- Drama, Dance and Music – The Lion King Musical, London
- English – Shakespeare, The Globe
- Geography – Field studies centre, Surrey
- History – Hampton Court Palace
- Media – Harry Potter experience, London
- PE – European Championships – Old Trafford
- Science – Natural History Museum, London
